Russia says its security service has foiled a plot by militants to stage an attack during the 2014 Winter Olympic games in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi.
The National Anti-Terror Committee said Thursday that Federal Security Service agents uncovered a cache of portable surface-to-air missiles, grenade launchers and explosives during recent raids in Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia.
It suspects Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov of masterminding the attack.
Umarov is Russia's most wanted Islamist rebel. He has claimed responsibility for a series of bomb attacks in Moscow and the Caucasus region that has left more than 100 people dead.
