S. Sudan Oil Shutdown Chokes Economy
Jun 30th 2012, 18:55

NAIROBI — Brave or reckless, South Sudan's decision to shut down its oil production to protest the north has had disastrous consequences for its citizens.  The country's economy came to a jarring halt in January, when it shut down oil production due to a trade dispute with Sudan. To make up for its own lost revenues from the split with South Sudan, Khartoum had been demanding exorbitant transit fees for the use of its pipelines and port, the only available route for South Sudan ...

EU Oil Embargo on Iran Takes Effect Sunday
Jun 30th 2012, 15:30

A European Union embargo on Iranian oil that takes effect Sunday is the latest move in an international effort to force Tehran to halt its disputed nuclear program. The EU and the United States want Iran to end development work that they say is intended to produce nuclear weapons. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
