The United Nations says the humanitarian crisis in Syria has reached "catastrophic" proportions and is dramatically expanding its aid operation to reach one million more people. U.N. A new study has established the accuracy of the Biblical advice, "It is better to give than receive." Researchers from three American universities identified about 850 people who reported experiencing significant stress during the previous year, including serious illness, financial difficulties or the death of a family member. Feb 5th 2013, 16:13

A senior United Nations official says the Chadian government is making progress in addressing the country's critical political, humanitarian and social issues.  The official says the process of reform is long, but there appears to be a strong political will to come to terms with the country's many underlying problems.  Chad is one of the poorest countries on earth.  It is just emerging from decades of internal strife and conflict.  It has to contend with the persistent ...

Feb 5th 2013, 16:35

With one of the world's most liberal constitutions and a boisterous media sector, South Africa has long been the African continent's model for human rights.   But global watchdog Human Rights Watch (HRW) says events in 2012 have set the nation back significantly.
