Red Cross Launches Appeal for Mozambique Flood Victims
Feb 4th 2013, 17:20

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says it needs $700,000 for emergency aid to flood victims in Mozambique.   A quarter of a million people are affected by the ongoing floods, with an estimated 140,000 made homeless. South African TB Vaccine Trial Fails, More Coming
Feb 4th 2013, 19:03

A long-awaited study of the first new tuberculosis vaccine in nearly a century shows that it offers no significant advantage over the existing vaccine in protecting babies from TB infections. The results, based on a study of about 3,000 babies in South Africa, were disappointing but not a complete surprise. The vaccine, called MVA85A, is the most advanced of more than a dozen TB vaccines now in human clinical trials. Scientists are still trying to assess why the trial failed and how these ...

Tens of thousands of mourners gathered in Cambodia's capital Monday for the cremation of former king Norodom Sihanouk, a much revered figure widely seen as the father of Cambodia's independence. The former monarch's embalmed body had been lying in state since he died of heart failure at the age of 89 in Beijing on October 15. After sunset, Sihanouk's widow Queen Monineath and his son, King Norodom Sihamoni, wept as they lit a pyre inside a temple-like crematorium built just for ...
