A U.N. tribunal for the former Yugoslavia has cleared Kosovo's former prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, of war crimes, following a second trial in The Hague.  "Mr. Haradinaj, will you please stand? The chamber finds you not guilty on all counts in the indictment. The chamber orders you be released from the United Nations detention unit,"  Presiding judge Bakone Moloto said as he read the verdict. Haradinaj was first acquitted by the U.N. court in 2008, but ...

Syrian government warplanes Thursday bombed targets in two Damascus neighborhoods which have served as launching points for rebel operations. The bombings came as the areas of Kafr Souseh and Daraya have seen intense fighting in recent days between rebels and government forces. Nov 29th 2012, 16:04

The U.S. Republican Party has begun a period of introspection following President Barack Obama's re-election victory on November 6.  Debates about the future of the Republican Party began right after Mitt Romney conceded defeat on Election Night. "This election is over, but our principles endure," Romney told supporters in his concession speech. Applying new lessons Republicans  consequently began a debate about what went wrong in the election and how to fix it in the future. ...

US Economy Advancing Faster Than First Estimated

The U.S. says its economy advanced at a faster pace in recent months than first estimated.  The government's Commerce Department said Thursday that the American economy, the world's largest, grew by 2.7 percent in the July-to-September period, a quicker pace than the 2 percent gain it calculated last month. Businesses contributed to the faster pace, boosting their inventories, while the country's trade deficit narrowed as increased exports outpaced the growth in imports.  ...

Nov 29th 2012, 14:53

A new spoof video pokes fun at charity ad campaigns about Africa and challenges Africans to send their radiators to freezing Norway. The video's creator says embedded in the joke is a serious message: stop treating Africans like passive recipients of aid, and recognize that the continent is more than the sum of its problems. Growing up in Norway, Erik Schreiner Evans' childhood was marked by snow. In fact, he says, snow has fallen on his family for generations, in a tireless and vicious ...

The waves of the Indian Ocean softly lap the idyllic coastline of Kilifi, just north of Mombasa. Edged in golden sand and fringed by palm trees, this is prime Kenyan real estate, ripe for hotels and luxurious homes. But, it is also the ancestral land of Kenya's coastal people, most of whom are poor. As more and more of this land finds its way into the hands of the wealthy, hundreds of thousands of natives are being evicted. Goodluck Washe, a community activist working with the local people, ...
