Israel has freed 26 long-held Palestinian prisoners as a gesture, hours before peace talks resume. The prisoners were loaded onto buses late Tuesday and brought home to the West Bank and Gaza.  Jubilant relatives and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas hailed them as heroes. Pope Francis told the Italian and Argentine soccer teams on Tuesday that he could not decide who to back in their friendly match on Wednesday, but he urged them to set a good example in their behavior on and off the field.   "It's a bit hard for me to decide who to support," Francis, an Argentine whose parents hailed from northern Italy, said in an audience with players and officials at the Vatican ahead of the fixture, which has been organized in his honor.   "It's a good ...

Aug 13th 2013, 22:56, by webdesk@voanews.com (Reuters)

Mozambican government forces attacked a guerrilla camp of the Renamo opposition group in a flareup of violence ahead of local and presidential elections between former foes from the country's devastating 17-year civil war.   Sporadic bloodshed this year has raised fears that Mozambique, one of Africa's fastest-growing economies with major foreign investors developing its huge coal and natural gas deposits, could slip back into open conflict.   The latest clash occurred at ...

Sri Lanka Allows Mosque Expansion Despite Buddhist Objections
Aug 13th 2013, 21:57, by webdesk@voanews.com (Reuters)
