A U.S. Senate committee has approved the nomination of Senator John Kerry to be the next secretary of state, with the full Senate to vote possibly later Tuesday. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the nomination of the Massachusetts Democrat on a voice vote. U.S. President Barack Obama nominated Kerry, who is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, last month, to succeed Hillary Clinton as the top U.S. diplomat.
