Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives late Thursday abruptly put off a vote on Speaker John Boehner's plan allowing tax rates to rise for households earning $1 million and up. The move complicates efforts by Congress and the White House to avoid a year-end crisis that threatens to plunge the U.S. economy into recession.
