Angola Says Dos Santos' Ruling Party Has Big Election Lead Sep 2nd 2012, 14:07 Angola's electoral commission says the ruling party of President Eduardo dos Santos has a big lead with most of the votes counted after Friday's national election, effectively extending his 33 years in power. In a statement Sunday, the commission said dos Santos' Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, or MPLA, had almost three-quarters of the vote, with results in from 72 percent of polling stations.
