Celebrated Literary Figure Gore Vidal Dies Aug 1st 2012, 10:55 American writer Gore Vidal, who chronicled the political and cultural landscape of the United States in historical and contemporary novels, essays and plays, has died at the age of 86.  Vidal's nephew says the writer passed away at his Los Angeles home Tuesday due to complications from pneumonia. ​​Vidal was born in 1925 in West Point, New York, where his father taught aviation at the U.S. Military Academy and eventually became director of air commerce under President Franklin D. ...
