U.S. President Barack Obama is meeting with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff at the White House for talks aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries.
The White House says Monday's meeting will focus on a wide range of regional and bilateral issues and comes as part of an on-going dialogue regarding the growing partnership between the two nations.
It is Rousseff's first visit to the United States as Brazil's leader.
The meeting comes just a year after Obama's trip to Brazil where he met with former President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.
Rousseff, who is traveling with a delegation of ministers, will also attend a one-day binational forum at the Chamber of Commerce in Washington.
Earlier Monday, at the opening of the forum, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced plans to open two new consulates in the country. Clinton will meet later with Brazilian Foreign minister Antonio Patriota to sign cooperation agreements.
