The U.S. jobless rate unexpectedly fell to 7.8 percent in September, the first time in 44 months it had dipped below the 8 percent level. In a key government report a month ahead of the country's presidential election, the U.S. said Friday the country's labor market added 114,000 jobs last month. It also revised the estimate of new hiring in August substantially upward, from 96,000 to 142,000. The August unemployment rate had been pegged at 8.1 percent, and some economists predicted ...

Pakistan's highest court has given the government more time to prepare a letter asking Swiss authorities to reopen a corruption probe against Pakistan's president. The Supreme Court's move on Friday gives the government until October 10 to consult with Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to revise a paragraph in the draft letter about graft allegations against President Asif Ali Zardari.   Judge Asif Saeed Khosa said a resolution was just "inches away." ...
