India's Economic Growth Slips to 3 Year Low
Aug 31st 2012, 13:01

NEW DELHI — Economic growth in India has slipped to a three-year low, confirming a sharp slowdown in Asia's economy.   The 5.5 percent economic growth from April to June was slightly higher than in the previous three months. But it brought no cheer to a country where the economy has stalled in recent months. Virtually all sectors such as manufacturing, services and agriculture posted slower growth compared to the same period last year, said Dharmakirti Joshi, chief economist at ratings ...

World Bank: Droughts Pushing Food Prices Sharply Higher
Aug 31st 2012, 13:47

The World Bank says droughts in the United States and Eastern Europe are pushing global food prices sharply higher. The international lending agency says that prices surged 10 percent in July, with the cost of vital corn and soybean crops reaching all-time highs. Soaring summertime temperatures in the U.S. and Eastern Europe have left many farmlands scorched and plants withered. Overall, the World Bank said its Food Price Index that tracks internationally traded food commodities was 6 ...

TIMONIUM, Maryland — When you hear the word artist, you usually think of a painter or photographer. Marty Long creates art in an unusual way, though. He uses a chainsaw to carve sculptures out of wood, and this accomplished artist recently demonstrated his craft. Long shows off his skill, speed carving an owl in just 45 minutes. "I love chainsaw carving. It's art. It's fun. People love it. It makes people smile," he said. Long began his career carving ice sculptures, also with a chainsaw. ...
