US Reports Slight Rise in Unemployment Claims Jan 3rd 2013, 15:04 The number of people signing up for unemployment aid in the United States rose slightly last week.   Thursday's report from the Labor Department shows the number of first-time applicants for unemployment insurance rose by 10,000 to a nationwide total of 372,000.   Economists watch jobless claims as a way of tracking weekly layoffs, which rose a bit during December.   Government experts are set to publish the monthly unemployment rate Friday.
