Pentagon Lifts Ban on Combat Duty for Women Jan 24th 2013, 16:09 U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the Pentagon has dropped its ban on women in combat positions. Panetta says allowing women to serve in combat will strengthen the U.S. military's ability to win wars. He said they have "proven their ability to serve in an expanding number of roles."
