60 Dead in DRC Mine Collapse Aug 16th 2012, 14:49 Government officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo say 60 miners have been killed in a mine collapse in a remote northeast jungle. Authorities say the miners were digging for gold about 100 meters deep on Monday when the shaft collapsed. The site is located in Pangoyi in Orientale Province. Local officials say the area is controlled by militia and that has been complicating rescue efforts. Thousands of people in the impoverished country try to make a living doing small-scale mining. ...
