AU Seeks Regional Response to Conflicts Jul 15th 2012, 15:12 The African Union summit opened in Ethiopia on Sunday with an appeal for a regional response to conflicts. AU Chairman Jean Ping called for Africa to solve its own problems. The summit is to focus on trade and security. The AU said it may send forces to battle armed rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It also backed a plan by West African nations to battle Islamist militants in northern Mali.
